Ritu MoniR. MoniRitu Moni rips out the chase
Ritu Moni’s double-strike spell turned a competitive chase into a scramble, as Bangladesh Women defended 152/6 to beat Scotland Women by 34 runs. Scotland were still in touch after a steady start, but once the required rate climbed and wickets began to fall in clusters, the chase unravelled. Bangladesh’s late surge with the bat proved decisive, and Moni’s 4/12 ensured there was no way back.
Nigar-Sobhana reset the innings
Bangladesh won the game in the middle-to-death transition with a rebuild that became a launchpad. After losing three wickets in the powerplay despite racing to 52/3, Nigar Sultana and Sobhana Mostary stitched a match-shaping 77-run partnership. Their stand stabilised the innings through the middle overs (65/1) and set up a strong finish, with Bangladesh adding 35 in the last five at 8.8 an over to push beyond Scotland’s reach.
Sultana’s anchor, Moni’s burst
Nigar Sultana’s 58 off 47 was the innings’ spine, balancing risk while partners came and went, and Sobhana Mostary’s 39 off 31 provided the acceleration within that key stand. With the ball, Moni’s 4/12 was the match’s defining impact, ripping through the lower order and snuffing out any late surge. Support came from Marufa and Sanjida, who controlled the chase with disciplined lengths and timely breakthroughs.
Scotland’s fight fades late
Scotland’s reply had a brief heartbeat when Sarah Bryce held the chase together, and her 38-run partnership with Ailsa Lister offered a route back. But Bangladesh kept squeezing: Marufa Akter’s 2/13 and Sanjida Akter Meghla’s 2/23 ensured boundaries were scarce, and the asking rate kept climbing. The decisive moment came in the late middle overs when Moni struck twice in quick succession, forcing Scotland into high-risk shots; the last phase brought 17/4 as they were bowled out for 118 in 19 overs.
