Mahedi HasanM. HasanConnolly’s counterpunch settles chase
Cooper Connolly broke the chase open just when it threatened to drift, striking 47 off 27 to put Australia back in control and carry them to a four-wicket win with 10 balls remaining. After early wickets left the pursuit uneasy, his clean hitting through the middle overs ensured the asking rate never spiralled, and Australia stayed ahead of the game even as Bangladesh kept chipping away.
Zampa squeezes middle overs
The match turned in Bangladesh’s middle phase, where Adam Zampa’s control and wickets collapsed a promising powerplay into a scramble. Bangladesh raced to 52/2 in the first six, but then managed only 53/6 across overs 7–16, losing shape and momentum as Zampa finished with 3/18 from four overs. With the innings repeatedly reset, their best stand was just 23, and 131 never became the total their start hinted at.
Zampa, Connolly shape result
Zampa was the standout, combining a tight economy with three key strikes to dismantle Bangladesh’s middle-order resistance. Connolly’s 47 provided the chase’s defining momentum swing, turning a cautious start into a controlled finish. Joel Davies’ 3/17 added further damage during Bangladesh’s slide, ensuring Australia’s batters were never chasing an imposing number.
Bangladesh keep chase tense
Bangladesh’s bowlers kept the contest alive by denying easy partnerships and forcing Australia to rebuild more than once. Australia were 47/2 after the powerplay, and even with a steadier middle (68/2), the pressure returned when wickets fell late and the target remained in sight. The decisive stand was Australia’s best of the match — 40 — and once that was broken, Bangladesh briefly sniffed a squeeze before the visitors closed it out.
