Deshan-Ahmadzai settle nerves
Switzerland’s chase was defined by the calm, busy partnership between Harsha Deshan and Numan Ahmadzai, who added 65 to steady a pursuit that had briefly threatened to drift. They kept the asking rate under control through the middle, and even when wickets fell late, Switzerland scrambled over the line with 5 balls remaining, finishing 145/7 in 19.1 overs to win by 3 wickets.
Middle overs set the chase
The decisive stretch came after Switzerland’s brisk powerplay (54/2). Deshan and Ahmadzai turned that platform into a controlled middle phase, scoring 74/4 at 7.3 an over without letting Hungary’s bowlers string together dot-ball pressure. By rotating strike and picking off boundary balls, they ensured the target never ballooned, even as Hungary tried to squeeze with changes of pace.
Soban’s fifty, bowlers respond
Earlier, Muhammad Soban’s 57 off 43 balls held Hungary together as wickets fell around him, including a best stand of 45. Hungary were 125/6 after 15, but a late collapse left them 141 all out in 18.2. For Switzerland, Deshan’s 45 (36) and Ahmadzai’s 36 (29) anchored the chase, while Musa Ahmadzai’s 3/24 helped keep the target chaseable.
Saqlain makes it a finish
Hungary’s fight was led by Muhammad Saqlain, whose 3/27 repeatedly pulled Switzerland back. With the chase tilting Switzerland’s way, his spells in the back half forced new batters to start again, and the required rate tightened. The death phase slowed to 17/1 at 5.4 an over, and the game went deep into the 20th, but Switzerland found the final runs in 19.1.
