Sheikh and Malik Khel take charge
Muhammad Sheraz Sheikh flipped the match in Belgium’s favour with a crisp 51 off 34, anchoring the innings just as the tempo threatened to lag. His acceleration, followed by a strong finish, carried Belgium to 180/4 and left Romania chasing a demanding rate. Romania’s reply had moments of promise, but they fell 20 runs short at 160/8.
Belgium’s middle overs surge
The decisive stretch came after a quiet start: Belgium crawled to 31/1 in the powerplay, then transformed the innings in the middle phase. Sheikh and Omid Malik Khel stitched an 82-run partnership that changed the rhythm completely, taking 97 runs in the middle overs at 9.7 an over. That burst meant even with wickets in hand for Romania, Belgium entered the death overs with a platform and then added 52/1 at 12.5 an over to push the total beyond reach.
Sheikh leads, Ekrami seals
Sheikh’s 51 (SR 150) was the innings-defining contribution, with Malik Khel’s 50 off 37 providing the other half of the key stand. For Romania, Ringku’s 31 off 30 offered resistance without the late surge they needed. Ekrami’s economy (3.8) and timely strikes, supported by Sohail Khan’s control, ensured Belgium defended the total with room to spare.
Ekrami, Sohail Khan apply brakes
Romania began the chase at pace, reaching 53/2 in the powerplay, but the chase lost shape once Belgium’s bowlers tightened. Murid Ekrami’s four overs for 2/15 squeezed the middle, and Rashid Sohail Khan backed it up with 2/22, forcing Romania into riskier options. A 40-run stand between Irfan Ringku and Avishka Iroshan briefly stabilised things, yet the required rate kept climbing as boundaries dried up.
