Kavisha DilhariK. DilhariDilhari squeezes Bangladesh’s middle
Kavisha Dilhari’s spell was the hinge: she slowed Bangladesh to a crawl just as the chase threatened to settle, and Sri Lanka Women rode that control to a 21-run win. After Sri Lanka posted 154/4, Bangladesh began brightly at 46 without loss, but Dilhari’s 2 for 16 in four overs turned comfort into pressure. By the time the last five overs arrived, the asking rate had ballooned, and Bangladesh’s late hitting couldn’t bridge the gap as they finished 133/5.
Death overs swing it hard
The decisive separation came at the back end of Sri Lanka’s innings. They were only 104/3 after 15 overs, then exploded for 50/1 in the last five at 12.5 an over. Harshitha Samarawickrama’s 49 off 29 set the tempo, and the finishing surge ensured Bangladesh were chasing a target that demanded risk. Bangladesh’s bowlers actually kept a lid through the middle, but without wickets at the death, the final total became one boundary too far, too often.
Samarawickrama and Chamari set up
Samarawickrama was the innings’ accelerator, turning length into boundary options and keeping Sri Lanka ahead of the game. Chamari Athapaththu’s 42 off 37 provided the base, ensuring the late hitters had a platform rather than a rebuild. For Bangladesh, Sharmin Akhter’s 45 off 47 held the chase together, but the key moment came when Dilhari struck in the middle overs, forcing Bangladesh into catch-up mode with limited wickets in hand.
Form lines up with phases
Pre-match signs pointed Sri Lanka’s way: better recent results, head-to-head momentum, and a stronger scoring profile. That played out in two ways. First, Sri Lanka absorbed a quieter powerplay (35/1) without panic, then attacked late with clear intent. Second, Bangladesh’s chase followed their recent pattern—good start, then a middle-overs stall (53/4) that left too much for the end, even with a brisk 34/1 finish.
