Nahida AkterN. AkterSiegers’ double blow
Heather Siegers set up and sealed a tight finish, first anchoring Netherlands’ 162/5 and then striking late as Bangladesh fell 8 runs short. Nigar Sultana’s fluent 77 kept the chase alive deep into the innings, but the required rate spiked in the closing overs and Netherlands held their nerve to close out a tense final stretch.
Netherlands’ death-overs surge
The match swung on Netherlands’ acceleration at the back end. After a steady middle phase (74/3), they exploded for 45/2 at the death at 11.2 an over, turning a competitive total into a defendable one. That late lift meant Bangladesh, despite reaching 82/2 through the middle overs, were left needing a heavier finish than their innings could sustain.
Four names shaped it
Heather Siegers was the match’s defining figure, combining 52 (43) with 3/39 to influence both innings. Nigar Sultana’s 77 (51) at 151 strike rate was the standout of the chase, repeatedly dragging Bangladesh back towards the equation. Silver Siegers’ economy (6.0) provided the control that made the final overs defendable, while Phebe Molkenboer’s 29 (24) added valuable tempo to the Netherlands total.
Nigar fights, wickets bite
Bangladesh’s chase began in check (35/2 in the powerplay), then stabilised through a best stand of 46 between Nigar and Shorna Akter. But Netherlands kept breaking momentum: Silver Siegers’ 2/24 controlled the middle, and the chase never fully settled into a clean run of boundaries. The turning point came in the last four overs, when Bangladesh managed 37/4 in the death phase — runs came, but the wickets ensured the target stayed just out of reach.
