Khuttan’s spell tilts it Portugal
Hardeep Khuttan’s incisive 3/16 was the match’s first big swing, and it set up Portugal to edge Sweden in a Super Over after the sides finished locked at 156 apiece. Sweden recovered from a mid-innings wobble through Darshan Lakhani’s 51 off 38 and a late Wynand Boshoff burst, but Portugal’s chase — sparked early and then repeatedly stalled — still found a way to the tie.
Portugal powerplay sets the chase
The clearest advantage came in the first six overs of Portugal’s reply. They blasted 79/2 at 11.3 an over, instantly turning 156 into a target that looked smaller than it was. That head start proved vital once Sweden’s bowlers slowed the middle overs to 70/4 (7.0 rpo), forcing Portugal to chase the game in patches rather than in one continuous surge.
Khuttan and Lakhani stand out
Khuttan was decisive with the ball, conceding only 16 in his three overs while striking three times to derail Sweden’s middle. Lakhani’s 60-run stand with Saeed Ahmed gave Sweden stability, and his 51 ensured they had something to defend. Boshoff’s 45 off 23 lifted Sweden’s death-overs rate to 12.0, but Portugal’s early surge and late composure ultimately carried them through the Super Over.
Sweden’s middle-overs squeeze
Sweden’s fightback was built on control after the initial damage. Zabiullah Zahid’s 3/31 provided the wickets that kept Portugal from building a defining stand — their best partnership was only 37 between Edward Fleming and Carlos Nunes. Even as Nunes anchored with 46 off 39, Sweden’s bowlers repeatedly broke rhythm, and the chase drifted into a tense final phase where Portugal managed just 28/1 at the death to finish level.
