Hampshire pull Kuggeleijn from squad after backlash over overseas signing

Hampshire have confirmed New Zealand allrounder Scott Kuggeleijn will not represent the club, reversing their decision to sign him for the final four County Championship matches after significant criticism from supporters and staff. Kuggeleijn, 34, stood trial in 2017 after being accused of rape and indecent assault in 2015; he was found not guilty after an initial trial ended with a hung jury.

He had been announced as a replacement for Delano Potgieter and was named in Hampshire’s initial 15-man squad to face Warwickshire, but the club issued its U-turn shortly before the toss, saying it had “reflected and listened to feedback”. Cricinfo understands members of Hampshire’s women’s squad were taken aback by the signing and had planned to raise concerns with officials before learning he had been removed. Hampshire have not confirmed whether Kuggeleijn remains under contract, while head coach Russell Domingo declined further comment.

England omit Carse again as Derby investigations continue; Fisher dropped for third Test

Brydon Carse was not considered for England’s 15-man squad for next week’s third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, with police continuing to investigate allegations of an assault in Derby city centre linked to the night of his arrest and subsequent de-arrest. Carse is also the subject of a Cricket Regulator investigation into his conduct after being briefly detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly outside a bar while celebrating a Durham win last month; it remains unclear whether he was involved in the alleged assault.

Sonny Baker, who replaced Carse for the second Test, keeps his place, while Surrey fast bowler Matt Fisher is the only player left out from the previous squad. Marcus Trescothick, England’s interim head coach, had indicated after the Lord’s win that an unchanged XI was likely as England chase a series whitewash. Pakistan, meanwhile, have sent seven players home and drafted seven more into their group for the final match, including five uncapped players.

Women’s Champions Trophy moved to India; Mumbai and Vadodara to host February opener

The ICC has shifted the inaugural six-team Women’s Champions Trophy from Sri Lanka to India, with the T20 tournament scheduled for February 14-28 next year across Mumbai and Vadodara. The Brabourne Stadium and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will stage the matches.

Sri Lanka will still take part despite losing hosting rights because of government interference in their board, having qualified inside the top six of the T20I rankings on the July 6 cut-off date. Australia, England, India, New Zealand and South Africa complete the line-up, with the ICC saying Bangladesh, India and South Africa were assessed as replacement hosts before India was recommended.

Hridoy smashes Bangladesh first-class record with unbeaten 350 for A side in South Africa

Towhid Hridoy struck an unbeaten 350 for Bangladesh A in their unofficial Test against South Africa A in Potchefstroom, setting a new Bangladesh record for the highest individual first-class score. He went past Tamim Iqbal’s 334* from the Bangladesh Cricket League in 2020, and also became the first Bangladesh batter to score a first-class triple-century away from home.

Hridoy’s innings, featuring 27 fours and ten sixes, helped Bangladesh A declare on 676 for 8, their highest total. The match ended in a draw, and Bangladesh A lost the two-game series 1-0 after an innings defeat in the first fixture.

Bangladesh recall Shanto and Mahmud for Asian Games; Litton returns to captaincy

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Hasan Mahmud have been recalled to Bangladesh’s T20I squad for the Asian Games in September, with Litton Das back as captain after recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the Zimbabwe and Australia series.

Nurul Hasan and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain have been dropped, while Nahid Rana is sidelined with a side strain. Bangladesh’s first match will be a quarter-final on September 28 at Korogi Sports Park, and they go into the tournament as 2023 bronze medallists.
