Rizwan takes NCCIA summons to court, Wade retires from BBL, India reshuffle squads — cricket digest 17 Sep 2026
Rizwan challenges NCCIA summons as Pakistan’s England-tour fallout deepens
Mohammad Rizwan has filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court against Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency after being summoned for questioning in the wake of Pakistan’s 3-0 Test defeat in England. Rizwan, who appeared at the NCCIA’s Lahore office last week alongside Imam-ul-Haq, is understood to have raised concerns about the nature of the investigation and the agency’s jurisdiction, citing the absence of any specific allegation.
Imam is believed to have returned his questionnaire responses by the September 15 deadline, while Rizwan’s petition comes amid separate PCB action: the board has announced an internal disciplinary inquiry and, after the Lord’s Test, removed seven players plus head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from the touring squad. Misbah-ul-Haq resigned as a selector following the changes, and the tour also featured debuts for Mohammad Imran Randhawa, Razaullah and wicketkeeper Ghazi Ghouri at Edgbaston.
Matthew Wade retires from the BBL to focus on coaching
Matthew Wade has called time on his Big Bash League career, stepping away ahead of the 2026-27 season to concentrate on coaching, including his role as Australia’s white-ball batting coach. Wade had been consulting with the men’s team last year while still playing for Hobart Hurricanes, but has now decided to stop playing altogether.
Wade finishes as a major figure in the competition: 119 BBL matches across stints with Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades and, most prominently, the Hurricanes. He ends ninth on the all-time runs list and fifth for dismissals, owns a Hurricanes-best 130 not out, and was part of their maiden title in 2024-25.
India forced into late spin change: Chakravarthy out, Nigam in; Nitish Kumar Reddy switched to ODIs
Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out of India’s one-off T20I against Japan and the Asian Games after suffering a side strain during the first T20I against Afghanistan in Delhi. Legspin allrounder Vipraj Nigam has been named as his replacement, earning his first international call-up after coming to prominence in IPL 2025 and then impressing for India A in Sri Lanka in June.
Nitish Kumar Reddy has been withdrawn from the Asian Games squad and will instead feature in the ODI series against West Indies. With Chakravarthy unavailable, Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi are expected to be India’s first-choice spinners, with Washington Sundar and Nigam as back-ups.
Rauf returns to first-class cricket with five-for as he pushes for a Test recall
Haris Rauf has gone back to the President’s Trophy Grade 1 to press his case for a return to Pakistan’s Test side, with the two-match home series against Sri Lanka in November on the horizon. In his first outing of the season he took 5 for 34 in 13 overs, helping Pakistan Television (PTV) enforce the follow-on against OGDCL before the match ended in a draw.
Rauf has not played a Test since his injury-shortened appearance against England in Rawalpindi in December 2022, and he has largely been used as a white-ball specialist since. Pakistan’s selectors, though, are looking for more pace in the longest format after their bowlers averaged below the hosts for speed on Test tours of Bangladesh, West Indies and England in 2026.
Imran Tahir embraces the pressure of time as Guyana chase another CPL title
Imran Tahir says he is aware that, at 47, he is only “a couple of bad games” away from scrutiny, but he remains motivated as Guyana Amazon Warriors push for a second CPL crown. Tahir has already led the side to the Global Super League title this season and has taken them into the CPL 2026 knockouts ahead of their Qualifier 1 meeting with Antigua & Barbuda Falcons.
He recently became the first overseas player to reach 100 CPL appearances and is two wickets shy of overtaking Sunil Narine as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. Tahir, who has been with the Warriors since 2019 and took over as captain in 2023, says the support in Guyana drives him to deliver for the team and its fans.
