Attarde shuts the door late

With Eagle Thane Strikers needing only a handful at the death, Shashank Attarde’s late strikes turned a near-steal into a one-run heartbreak. Aakash Tigers MWS had put up 172/9, but the game didn’t feel safe until the final moments, when the chase ended at 171 all out with one ball remaining. The Strikers’ finishers kept landing punches, yet the Tigers found just enough calm under pressure to close out a match that swung on every boundary and wicket.

Middle overs keep Tigers alive

The decisive stretch came through the middle overs, where the Tigers stopped the chase from running away. After a steady powerplay (47/2), the Strikers were matched in tempo but not allowed to surge: they managed 79/4 in the middle phase, losing set batters at the wrong time. That meant even a strong finish (45/4 at 10.8 an over) became a scramble rather than a controlled chase. Shams Mulani’s four overs for 18 were central to that squeeze, forcing risk and creating the wicket pressure that later made the final over so tight.

Bista’s base, Mulani’s choke

Jay Bista’s 58 off 40 was the innings that gave Aakash Tigers something to protect, especially through a best stand of 59 that steadied them after early damage in the powerplay (51/3). For the Strikers, Sairaj Patil’s 39 off 23 and Siddhant Singh’s 38 off 19 briefly flipped the chase into their favour with rapid scoring, but Mulani’s control ensured they never fully broke free. Tarmale deservedly took MVP for his economy and wickets, yet it was Attarde’s three scalps in a shortened spell that ultimately decided the last-ball finish.

Pre-match fog, on-field clarity

With little to go on in terms of recent-form reads or phase matchups, this contest was decided the old-fashioned way: who handled the key overs better. The Strikers’ plan with the ball was clear early, as Onkar Tarmale’s 3/20 repeatedly pulled Aakash Tigers back just as they looked ready to accelerate. But the Tigers’ ability to manufacture a strong death phase (41 runs at 10.2) gave them a defendable total, and their bowlers then executed with enough discipline to make every late hit feel costly.
