Norotam’s stand breaks it
Dhavalkumar Norotam’s counterpunching 53 off 34 balls, stitched into a match-shaping 79-run partnership with Jordan Pereira Netto, proved the difference as Portugal beat Finland by 32 runs. Portugal’s innings had a strong base, then a wobble late, but the platform built in the middle overs meant Finland were always chasing a steep finish. When Finland slipped from 68/3 to 110 all out, the game turned from a chase to a scramble.
Powerplay burst, middle control
Portugal effectively won it with their early momentum: 52/1 in the powerplay at 8.7 an over. That surge let them absorb a slower middle phase (71/3) and still reach 142/9. Finland’s powerplay told the opposite story at 36/3; three early wickets forced consolidation rather than pursuit, leaving too much to do against a tightening attack.
Norotam leads, Arjunan fights
Norotam’s 156 strike-rate innings gave Portugal the cushion they needed, while Netto’s 38 off 37 anchored the key stand. Finland’s standout was Akhil Arjunan, whose 4/34 in four overs repeatedly checked Portugal’s scoring and helped force 19/5 at the death. In the chase, Jeremy Martins (3/30) and Hardeep Khuttan (2/16) applied the finishing pressure, turning a competitive chase into a comfortable defence.
Finland’s chase unravels late
Faheem Nellancheri kept Finland in touch with 38 off 32, and at 68/3 after the middle overs the chase still had shape. But the death overs became decisive: Finland managed only 6 runs while losing four wickets in the end phase, turning required-rate pressure into a collapse. Portugal’s bowlers kept striking just as Finland looked to launch, and the tail couldn’t extend the innings beyond 17.2 overs.
