Chameera’s early burst breaks chase

Dushmantha Chameera turned the chase into a scramble with a hostile new-ball spell and a late return, finishing with 3 for 9 to drive Sri Lanka to a 37-run win. After Kamil Mishara and Dasun Shanaka lifted Sri Lanka to 194/6, West Indies began briskly but never settled once Chameera hit his lengths. The chase ended at 157 all out in 18.1 overs, with wickets falling just as the required rate began to climb.

Sri Lanka’s death-overs surge

The match was effectively won in Sri Lanka’s final five overs. From a solid middle-overs base, they exploded for 57 runs in the death at 13.7 an over, turning a competitive total into a demanding one. Shanaka’s 59 off 24 was the accelerant, repeatedly finding the boundary to ensure West Indies would need a near-perfect finish. That late surge meant even a decent start in the powerplay left the hosts chasing the game.

Mishara, Shanaka, Chameera decisive

Mishara’s 61 off 40 provided the anchor, while Shanaka’s late assault supplied the knockout blows in a 102-run partnership that defined Sri Lanka’s innings. With the ball, Chameera’s 3 for 9 was the game’s sharpest spell, repeatedly forcing errors under pressure. Wanindu Hasaranga added a crucial 3 for 38 to keep the middle overs tight and prevent West Indies from lining up a late charge.

Middle-overs squeeze, then collapse

West Indies’ best chance was to control the middle overs, but they lost the plot there: 83/6 through that phase told the story. Rovman Powell’s 43 off 26 briefly revived the chase, and his 81-run partnership with Shimron Hetmyer was the lone stretch of sustained momentum.
