Shinwari’s spell breaks Austria
Hammadullah Shinwari turned the match with a miserly burst that kept Austria on a leash and forced errors through the middle. Austria were bundled out for 86 in 17.3 overs, and Finland’s chase never needed to sprint: a composed stand up top ensured they crossed 89/4 in 15.1 overs to win by 6 wickets.
Powerplay squeeze set the tone
The game was effectively decided in the first six overs of Austria’s innings. Finland’s new-ball pair strangled scoring and struck twice, leaving Austria 19/2 in the powerplay at just 3.2 an over. With the run rate stalled and wickets down, Austria were pushed into riskier options earlier than they wanted, and the innings never found a stable platform.
Pusthay-Jamadar calm the chase
Finland’s reply was built on a single decisive passage: Aniketh Pusthay and Kaif Jamadar added 54 for the first wicket, taking the chase from steady to safe. Pusthay’s 30 off 36 anchored the innings while Jamadar rotated strike to keep the required rate in check. Even after Finland slipped to 89/4, the early platform meant there was no late drama, while Bilal Zalmai’s 3/20 was Austria’s lone sustained threat.
Austria’s brief middle-overs push
Austria did fight back in patches once Hamid Safi began to counterpunch, lifting the tempo through the middle. A 32-run partnership between Safi and Player 17532 briefly nudged the innings forward, and Safi’s 24 off 17 kept the chase target from looking completely out of reach. But Shinwari’s tight lines and Amjad Sher’s relentless control (3/5 in 4) repeatedly broke momentum, and Austria lost six wickets in the middle phase.
