Sooryavanshi sets up 192
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s clean striking through the middle overs turned a good start into a match-defining total, and India carried that momentum to a 35-run win. After India’s brisk powerplay, Sooryavanshi anchored the innings with intent rather than caution, keeping the boundary flow steady as wickets fell around him. Zimbabwe were left chasing a stiff 193, and the required rate never dipped into comfortable territory.
Powerplay damage, chase tilts
The game was largely decided in the first six overs of Zimbabwe’s reply. India’s bowlers struck three times in the powerplay as Zimbabwe slipped to 53/3, forcing them into a catch-up chase from the outset. Even though Zimbabwe scored at 7.5 an over in the middle phase, the early losses meant they couldn’t take sustained risks without exposing the lower order, and the gap created up front proved too wide to close.
Sooryavanshi, Mayank seal it
Sooryavanshi was the standout, earning MVP for 81 off 49 at a strike rate of 165, and his 74-run partnership with Ishan Kishan (29 off 26) laid the platform for 192/5. With the ball, Mayank’s 3/29 combined pace with control to halt Zimbabwe’s recovery, while Yash Thakur’s 2/45 provided support despite some expensive passages. Brad Evans’ 2/41 was Zimbabwe’s best return, but India’s scoring rate stayed ahead throughout.
Burl and Madhevere resist
Zimbabwe did find a foothold through Ryan Burl and Madhevere, whose 59-run partnership briefly steadied the innings and threatened to keep the chase alive. But India’s control returned with timely breakthroughs, and the squeeze showed at the back end: Zimbabwe managed 29/2 in the death overs, never finding the sequence of big overs needed. A key moment came when Mayank Yadav broke the stand, shifting momentum back decisively.
