Carse cleared by police as regulator probe looms; Kingsmen reach CPL final — cricket digest 19 Sep 2026
Police close Carse case, but Cricket Regulator set to investigate
Brydon Carse will not face charges after Derbyshire Police ended their investigation into an alleged assault linked to an incident at a Derby nightclub last month. Carse had been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in the early hours of August 23 before being de-arrested, and the inquiry was closed after the alleged victim chose not to make a complaint.
The England and Durham seamer was dropped from the rest of the Pakistan Test series and then left out of the Sri Lanka white-ball squads, and he is now expected to be investigated by the Cricket Regulator. Carse’s central contract runs until September 30, 2027.
Powell’s late surge sends Jamaica Kingsmen into CPL final as Hetmyer’s ton falls short
Rovman Powell finished a tense chase with 40 not out from 17 balls to take Jamaica Kingsmen into the CPL final, knocking out Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 2. Shimron Hetmyer struck an unbeaten 102 from 45 balls for Guyana, but it wasn’t enough as Kingsmen got home by five wickets with two balls to spare in a 207 chase.
Powell later said it might be his best CPL innings, and he shared the Player-of-the-Match award with Hetmyer. Guyana captain Imran Tahir pointed to a boundary-line no-ball on a would-be catch as a key moment, while Kingsmen’s chase was also shaped by contributions from Maaz Sadaqat, Kirk McKenzie and Keacy Carty.
Agarkar tells BCCI he won’t seek extension as chief selector
Ajit Agarkar has decided not to pursue an extension as India’s chief selector beyond the end of his current contract on October 4. He communicated the decision to the BCCI this week, with secretary Devajit Saikia saying the board would take a call on Agarkar’s future within the next 15 days.
Agarkar has led the selection panel since July 2023, overseeing a period that included multiple tournament wins and captaincy appointments across formats. The timing leaves the BCCI needing clarity with India’s tour of New Zealand beginning in mid-October.
Rachin Ravindra dislocates shoulder in promo shoot, T20I series vs India in doubt
New Zealand allrounder Rachin Ravindra has dislocated his right shoulder after landing awkwardly while attempting a diving catch during a promotional shoot in Auckland. Initial assessments found no major structural damage, but New Zealand Cricket said his return will depend on how he progresses in the first weeks of rehabilitation.
New Zealand’s home series against India begins with T20Is on October 22, with the squad due next week, and NZC said it is unclear whether Ravindra will be available. Head coach Rob Walter said they would not rush him back, with a heavy Test schedule ahead.
BCCI says Asia Cup trophies will reach Mumbai after India’s refusal to accept them from Naqvi
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said India’s men’s and women’s Asia Cup trophies will “come and land up” at the board’s Mumbai headquarters, after both teams declined to accept the awards from ACC president Mohsin Naqvi. India Women had beaten Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai, but did not take the trophy and medals from Naqvi, who is also PCB chief and Pakistan’s interior minister.
Saikia said the decision had been communicated to the ACC in advance and described it as an institutional stance given prevailing sentiments. A similar scene had played out after the men’s Asia Cup final last year, and Saikia noted Naqvi’s ACC presidency runs until April 2027.
