Capsey-Knight flip the chase

Alice Capsey’s counterpunch changed the night. With England Women three down inside the powerplay, she and Heather Knight shut out India’s momentum and then accelerated hard, turning a tricky chase into a controlled finish. England overhauled India Women’s 180/5 with 9 balls remaining, reaching 184/4 in 18.3 overs, the decisive blow coming through a long, unbroken stretch of boundary-hitting in the middle.

Middle overs: 106 without loss

The game was won in England’s middle phase. After 53/3 in the powerplay, Capsey and Knight added 106 runs in the middle overs without losing a wicket, keeping the run rate above 10 an over and removing any need for a frantic finish. India, by contrast, slowed slightly through the same period (83/2), leaving their total dependent on a clean death-overs push rather than sustained pressure.

Capsey leads, Knight anchors

Capsey’s 82 off 43 balls (SR 191) was the innings that reshaped the chase, mixing power with smart rotation. Knight’s 70 off 42 (SR 167) provided the stability that let England keep attacking. For India, Harmanpreet Kaur’s 56 off 40 set the tone, while Arundhati Reddy’s 2/31 was the most effective spell in a defence that couldn’t contain England’s middle-overs onslaught.

India’s bursts, then release

India had their best window early, striking twice in the powerplay and forcing England into a rebuild. But once the fourth-wicket pair settled, the pressure bled away: singles were taken on offer and anything fractionally short or wide disappeared. Even when India finally broke through late, England’s required rate was already under control, and the chase stayed on script.
