Afzal takes charge late
Ayaz Ahmed Afzal turned a tricky chase into a controlled finish, steering MSC Maratha Royals to a five-wicket win with 10 balls remaining. After ARCS Andheri scrapped to 168 all out, the Royals were briefly checked early, but Afzal’s clean striking and calm pacing flipped the game in the middle overs. The decisive moment came when he shifted gears after the halfway mark, ensuring the asking rate never spiked again.
Middle-overs control decides it
The match swung in the middle phase of the chase. MSC Maratha Royals went from 57/2 in the powerplay to adding 86/2 through the middle overs at 8.6 an over, a stretch that effectively won the game. Afzal and Om Ramdas Bangar stitched the best stand of the innings — 61 — rotating enough to blunt the field while keeping boundary options open. By the time the death overs arrived, only 27 were needed and they were taken at 11.6 an over.
Afzal, Dhumal set tone
Afzal was the clear difference, his 88 from 49 balls combining placement with timely power to close out the chase. Bangar’s 29 off 27 played the supporting role in the key stand, allowing Afzal to attack without reckless shots. With the ball, Aditya Dhumal’s 2/14 was crucial in keeping ARCS from converting their powerplay into a 180-plus total, while Atharva Bhosale’s 2/35 chipped in to break momentum when ARCS tried to accelerate.
ARCS stall after fast start
ARCS Andheri had begun at 60/2 in the powerplay, but the innings lost shape through the middle, managing 69/4 as wickets repeatedly halted momentum. Musheer Khan’s 62 off 36 provided the thrust, yet the lack of sustained partnerships beyond a 45-run stand meant they were forced into risk at the back end. The Royals’ bowlers squeezed hard enough to keep ARCS to 39/4 in the last five, and the innings ended inside 20 overs.
