Carse breaks the chase
Brydon Carse turned the match on its head with a sharp, hostile spell that cut through Welsh Fire’s response and left them chasing shadows. After Sunrisers Leeds’ batters set a towering target, Carse’s 3/24 ensured Fire never built the tempo required, and Leeds cruised home by 71 runs.
Death-overs surge decides it
The game was effectively won in the final phase of Leeds’ innings. They were steady through the powerplay at 41/0 and navigated the middle at 98/3, but the last push was brutal: 62/1 at 14.8 an over. That acceleration flipped a competitive platform into 201/4 in 16.4 overs, stretching Welsh Fire’s required rate beyond reach.
Marsh sets, Carse finishes
Mitchell Marsh’s 50 off 34 anchored Leeds’ best passage, an 85-run partnership with Ryan Rickelton, whose 40 off 22 provided the early thrust. With the ball, Carse was the match-winner, backed by Nathan Ellis’ miserly 2/18 that squeezed Fire’s middle overs. Chris Woakes’ 2/41 was Fire’s best return, but it couldn’t prevent the late onslaught.
Fire’s chase stalls early
Welsh Fire’s pursuit began with a damaging lack of intent: 20/0 in the powerplay left too much to do. A brief stabilising stand of 49 between Joe Root and Matthew Short hinted at a counterpunch, but the middle overs unravelled into 85/5, with wickets repeatedly halting momentum. Even when Short struck 43 off 29, the chase never found a sustained run of boundaries, and the death phase yielded only 25/1.
