Niaz rebuilds, Belgium hold on
Burhan Niaz’s calm 71 off 49 balls became the difference as Belgium defended 184/8 to beat Switzerland by 16 runs. Belgium looked in trouble early at 57/4 in the powerplay, but Niaz stitched the innings back together and ensured there was enough on the board. Switzerland’s chase had moments of promise, yet they were left needing too much late despite a strong finish.
Middle-overs squeeze decides it
The game swung in Switzerland’s middle overs with the bat, where Belgium’s control created a decisive gap. Switzerland went from a brisk 55/2 in the powerplay to adding only 66/4 through the middle phase (RR 6.6), losing key wickets and momentum. That slowdown meant the required rate climbed beyond comfort, turning the final five overs into a near-perfect chase requirement rather than a manageable finish.
Niaz anchors, Vinod strikes back
Niaz was Belgium’s innings-shaper, combining in a best stand of 51 with Burhan Niaz/Hakim Khaksar to stabilise before Belgium’s 11.8-run death burst. For Switzerland, Vinod’s 3/37 was the standout spell, while Malyar Stanikzai’s 2/18 helped apply pressure. Belgium’s bowlers, led by Ahmad Khalid Ahmadzai’s 2/32, did enough to keep Switzerland behind the rate when it mattered.
Switzerland’s fight, then a stall
Switzerland’s bowlers kept them alive after Belgium’s shaky start, with Ashwin Vinod striking three times in his four overs. In reply, a 46-run stand between Isaac Stewart (27 off 17) and Naim Stanikzai briefly lifted the chase and kept the asking rate in check. But once the middle overs brought regular wickets, the chase became a scramble; even a 47-run death-overs push couldn’t erase the earlier drift.
