Burhan Niaz’s calm 71 off 49 balls became the difference as Belgium defended 184/8 to beat Switzerland by 16 runs. Middle-overs squeeze decides it
The game swung in Switzerland’s middle overs with the bat, where Belgium’s control created a decisive gap. Niaz anchors, Vinod strikes back
Niaz was Belgium’s innings-shaper, combining in a best stand of 51 with Burhan Niaz/Hakim Khaksar to stabilise before Belgium’s 11.8-run death burst. For Switzerland, Vinod’s 3/37 was the standout spell, while Malyar Stanikzai’s 2/18 helped apply pressure. Belgium’s bowlers, led by Ahmad Khalid Ahmadzai’s 2/32, did enough to keep Switzerland behind the rate when it mattered.
Switzerland’s fight, then a stall
