Dolphins (HD) and Rocks (Boland) (ROC) open their tournament campaigns against each other. Recent history between these teams has tilted one way, but the latest meeting still needed a Super Over to decide it. Both sides arrive with fresh results from other competitions that include tight finishes and clear-cut margins. With the official XIs still to come, selection calls around the bowling groups and the wicketkeeping role could shape how each team sets up on the day.
Head-to-Head
Rocks (Boland) have won the last three head-to-head meetings with Dolphins. The latest clash, in November 2025, finished tied before ROC took the Super Over to settle it. In that game, the teams couldn’t be split across the full contest, and the decider was required to separate them. Earlier in October 2024, ROC won via the D/L method by a narrow margin of four runs. Back in March 2024, Rocks won by four wickets with three balls remaining, underlining how often these games have been decided late.
Dolphins
This is HD’s first match of the tournament, but their recent run elsewhere includes two wins from their last three outings. Most recently, Dolphins beat South Western Districts by ten wickets with 25 balls remaining in a D/L game after SWD batted first. That result showed how quickly HD can close a chase when the target is manageable. The one setback in that stretch was a six-wicket loss to Warriors, with the opposition getting home with 30 balls still in hand.
Rocks (Boland)
ROC come in off a sequence that has already tested their nerve and their control of games. Their latest match against Titans went all the way to a Super Over, and Rocks came out on top after the scores were level. A week earlier, they beat Mpumalanga Rhinos by 39 runs after batting first, a win built around defending a total. The only slip in their last three was a six-wicket defeat to Western Province, decided with a single ball remaining.
Expected Lineups
Dolphins are expected to lean on a core that includes David Miller alongside batters such as Jason Smith, Khaya Zondo and Marques Ackerman. The likely XI also features a bowling group led by Ottneil Baartman and Keith Dudgeon, with Bryce Parsons offering an allround option. Grant Roelofsen is the specialist wicketkeeper in the projected side, but the official XI is still to come.
ROC’s projected group is built around a bowling-heavy spine, with Lehan Botha and Glenton Stuurman among the leading names by impact. Gavin Kaplan is the wicketkeeper in the expected XI, while Ferisco Adams and Ruan Terblanche give the side multiple allround options. The final call on the playing combination will only be clear once the official XI is released.
Key Stats
Prediction
The models are split, but the average leans towards HD at 55% to 45%, with individual calls ranging from HD at 48% to 59%. Bookmakers also shade it towards HD: 54% (odds 1.75) versus ROC at 46% (odds 2.00). That leaves a 1.2 percentage-point model-vs-market edge in favour of HD (55% model average vs 54% market for HD). The Key Stats card is dead even at HD 2 - 2 ROC, setting up a contest where small swings matter. ROC hold the recent head-to-head advantage, while the projections and player-form metrics in the data lean towards HD, so execution from the leading impact bowlers and the top-order batting groups is likely to decide it.
