Lees makes the chase simple

Alex Lees set the tone from the first over and never let Leicestershire settle, powering Durham to an eight-wicket win with 30 balls remaining. Chasing 157, Durham’s openers came out swinging, and even when two wickets fell in the middle overs, the target already looked small. Lees’ 80 off 44 was the defining innings, turning what could have been a tricky chase into a controlled finish.

Powerplay blitz breaks Leicestershire

The match was effectively decided in the first six overs of Durham’s reply. They surged to 85/0 in the powerplay at 14.2 an over, wiping out more than half the target before Leicestershire could find a matchup or a length. That burst meant the rest of the chase only needed management: even with a quieter middle phase of 75/2, Durham were always ahead of the rate and the fielding side’s options.

Lees and Clark set the tone

Lees was the standout, mixing clean hitting with smart placement as boundaries kept arriving whenever Leicestershire tried to tighten. Graham Clark’s 38 off 23 ensured the tempo never dipped, and their 113-run partnership removed any scoreboard pressure. With the ball, Callum Parkinson’s 2 for 23 and Nathan Sowter’s 2 for 30 were key in keeping Leicestershire to 156, while Matty Potts’ 2 for 41 came despite a costly spell—proof that Durham’s batting had already won them the margin.

Leicestershire’s stuttered start hurts

With pre-match indicators thin, the game still followed a familiar T20 pattern: early wickets and a middling total invite a dominant chase. Leicestershire’s 50/3 powerplay left them rebuilding rather than pressing, and their middle overs (71/5) never produced the one big partnership to change the par score. The late lift—35 without loss at the death—gave them something to bowl at, but it wasn’t enough to offset the damage Durham did up front.
